Last week more than 300 Texas students, families, and teachers rallied on the South Steps of the iconic Texas Capitol Building in support of virtual school and other education options.
The rally was led by supporters of increased school options in Texas, including State Senator Paul Bettencourt and PSO Texas Chapter President Shea Mackin.
“Now more than ever Texas parents and students deserve the right to more options for education,” PSO Texas Chapter President Shea Mackin said. “Every year we gain momentum throughout the United States and Texas for the simplest of reasons: Giving parents and students the right to choose the most appropriate education for their family is plainly the right thing to do.”
Texas currently has a moratorium on funding for virtual education, putting it at odds with many states nationwide which encourage this option for families. However, support has been growing, leading State Sen. Bettencourt to remark that “it’s very exciting to think about what the future holds.”
PSO President Tillie Elvrum also spoke at the rally, as did public virtual school graduate Kaitlyn Stegner.
