WASHINGTON – PublicSchoolOptions.org president Tillie Elvrum made the following statement regarding the the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) upcoming vote this weekend to pass a resolution supporting a moratorium on charter schools nationwide.
STATEMENT FROM TILLIE ELVRUM, PUBLICSCHOOLOPTIONS.ORG PRESIDENT, PARENT LEADER AND SCHOOL CHOICE ADVOCATE:
“The likely vote of the NAACP to place a moratorium on charter school growth is misguided, given that hundreds of thousands of charter school students are from the African American community and benefiting from this educational option. It is the entrenched educational establishment fighting against true reform in the name of nothing more than power and control. Many parents choose public charter schools because their children are being failed at traditional brick-and-mortar schools.
“No price tag can be put on the value of a parent’s right to choose how her child will be educated, because no one knows their child better than their parents. We will not stand idly by as our precious children are forced into the educational policies set by unaccountable bureaucrats. We strongly urge the NAACP to abandon this weekend’s vote of this harmful resolution.”
