WASHINGTON – PublicSchoolOptions.org released the following statement about the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s vote to move Betsy DeVos’ nomination as Secretary of Education to the Senate floor for a full vote.
Last month, the board of directors of PublicSchoolOptions.org submitted a letter to Chairman Alexander and Ranking Member Murray voicing support for her nomination.
STATEMENT FROM TILLIE ELVRUM, PUBLICSCHOOLOPTIONS.ORG PRESIDENT AND PARENT ADVOCATE:
“We want to thank those on the Senate HELP Committee who voted today to advance Betsy DeVos’ nomination to the Senate floor for a full vote.
“As parent advocates we urge the Senate to swiftly confirm Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education so she and her team can get about the business of improving education for every child, regardless of their zip code or socioeconomic status.
“Betsy is a strong, tireless, and long-time school choice advocate who has worked for over 20 years to empower parents with decisions about their children’s education. She shares our mission of advocating for access to public school options that best serve students’ needs and will make sure parents, not bureaucrats, are in the driver’s seat of their children’s education.”
PublicSchoolOptions.org is a national alliance of parents that supports and defends parents’ rights to access the best public school options for their children. The Coalition supports the creation of public school options, including charter schools, online schools, magnet schools, open enrollment policies and other innovative education programs. Additionally, we advocate for equal access without restrictions to these public schools for all children.
