National School Choice Week events across the country highlight benefits of school choice options
WASHINGTON – PublicSchoolOptions.org families and students will join with school choice advocates across the country next week to celebrate National School Choice Week, an annual, week-long celebration of the diverse education options that benefit families and students. The events, which will highlight school choice success stories and promote the value of school choice, will take place in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Maine, Nevada, Texas, and Wyoming.
PublicSchoolOptions.org believes that every child, regardless of their zip code or how much money their parents make, deserves the best start in life. We firmly believe that begins with a parent’s ability to choose the school where their child will thrive — whether that’s in a traditional brick and mortar school, public virtual school, public charter school, home school, or private school. Every child learns differently, even within the same family. Giving parents options so their child can succeed is critical.
PublicSchoolOptions.org strongly supports the Every Student Succeeds Act, which gives power back to states to determine how best to assess and improve its schools and empowers parents with more of their children’s education decisions. States must take their responsibility seriously in designing accountability systems that better serve its students and families and should give parents a seat at the table when it comes to crafting education policies.
STATEMENT FROM TILLIE ELVRUM, PUBLICSCHOOLOPTIONS.ORG PRESIDENT AND SCHOOL CHOICE ADVOCATE:
“We are proud to join with thousands across the country to celebrate National School Choice Week and the incredible opportunities choice has provided for so many children and families. Trusting parents with their children’s education decision should be the norm, and with our advocacy efforts across the country this week, we hope lawmakers and education officials will establish policies that put even more trust in parents. It’s time to trust parents and to make sure every child has access to the educational option that works best for them.”
