Virtual Education Work Group presented policy recommendations for virtual schools
WASHINGTON – The National Coalition for Public School Options (PSO) released the following statement following today’s Indiana State Board of Education Meeting where the full board voted on policy recommendations for the state’s public virtual schools.
STATEMENT FROM TILLIE ELVRUM, PRESIDENT, NATIONAL COALITION FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL OPTIONS:
“Speaking for hundreds of Indiana parents, we are extremely disappointed in the virtual school recommendations adopted today by the state board of education. Arbitrary enrollment caps limit choices for families and prohibit parents from doing what’s best for their individual students. Additionally, the board’s decision to not ensure equitable funding for these students puts them at a disadvantage. Every student, regardless of the school they attend, deserves fair and equal funding. One student is not worth more than another. Moving forward we will work closely with the legislature to ensure access and fair funding for every Indiana student.”
