Every year thousands of students, parents, teachers, and more rally together to celebrate the power of choice during National School Choice Week.
NSCW started in 2011 and has expanded across the nation, having hosted an astonishing 131,000 events across the country. This year will be no different with tens of thousands scattered throughout the nation banding together to celebrate.
Like NSCW, the National Coalition for Public School Options celebrates all school choice options. Through school choice students have the opportunity to learn through the educational option best suited to their individual needs. Not all students thrive in the local public school, just like not all students would do best in a nearby Catholic school. Each school offers a different approach to education, which enriches the whole landscape.
We believe that parents are much better suited than government bureaucrats when it comes to deciding which school their children should attend. Personally, my children have used a mix of public school and public virtual school, depending on life situations at the time. These options had a profoundly positive effect on my family and I’m thankful everyday I lived in a state with school choice friendly laws.
Unfortunately there are still those out there who have no choice, which is why events like National School Choice Week are still so important. So get out there, Parents! Call your local school officials and see if there’s NSCW event near you. Then don your yellow scarf and support the cause!
