Parents Share Personal Stories, Thoughts and Concerns About Current Legislation
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., April 7, 2015 — Members of the Oklahoma Chapter of PublicSchoolOptions.org met Monday for an advocacy training, continuing their advocacy efforts for schools of choice in Oklahoma. PublicSchoolOptions.org is a volunteer-driven, parent-led advocacy organization that supports policies that create access to high-quality options in education, like public charter schools, virtual schools, magnet schools, and open enrollment policies.
Following the training, PublicSchoolOptions.org hosted a reception attended by Oklahoma legislators, who talked with parent leaders about their experience with schools of choice and listened to parents’ thoughts and concerns about current bills in the Oklahoma legislature.
Colleen Cook, Oklahoma Chapter President for PublicSchoolOptions.org, said: “It’s so encouraging to see parents from all over Oklahoma who passionately care for not only their own children, but for the future of education in our state. I’m proud that the parent members of PublicSchoolOptions.org’s Oklahoma Chapter have been leading voices for school choice, and our work has made us the largest parent-led school choice organization in Oklahoma. We’ll keep working hard for schools of choice, and it’s functions like tonight that help prepare our parents for the opportunities that lie ahead.”
