Last week it was a pleasure to meet so many families in California who wanted to advocate for their schools. At the California Capitol Day, families shared various reasons for needing educational options and virtual schools, including health issues that require frequent trips to hospitals, advanced learners that needed to be challenged academically, and parents who wanted to be more involved with their children’s education.
We gave parents a quick lesson in Advocacy 101 where they learned how to make an appointment with their legislator and how to develop their message.
There’s a ballot initiative that would close charters in California and I stressed to parents that they have to stay vigilant and share their school choice stories with their legislators. I was encouraged to see so many California families making visits to their legislator’s offices to advocate for their schools.
Overall it was a great day of advocacy and we promised California families that we’d be there to support them.
