Last week, virtual school families in Kansas and New Mexico participated in capitol day events where they met with legislators and shared their personal school choice stories.
The Kansas chapter of PublicSchoolOptions.org hosted its inaugural “Parent Choice in Education Day at the Capitol” where about 100 students, families and teachers came together to celebrate the benefits of all school choice, including virtual education. The Kansas chapter leadership presented School Choice Champion Awards to Representative Clay Aurand (District 106) and Senator Mike Petersen (District 28) for their efforts to empower parents with choices.
The New Mexico chapter held its annual “New Mexico Capitol Day” which started with a program at the Inn and Spa at Loretto then followed with a walk to the state capitol – or as they call it in New Mexico – “The Roundhouse.” They posed for a quick group photo before meeting with their legislators. The 80 attendees also got a surprise visit from Lt. Governor John Sanchez, who spoke passionately about his support for charter schools. It was another successful event!
We were pleased to see so many school choice advocates come together in Kansas and New Mexico to celebrate choice but also advocate for even more options in education.
