If it all goes one California state legislator’s way, 20,000 virtual school students could lose their education starting in the 2017-2018 academic year. Assembly Bill 1084 would allow California lawmakers to close down several virtual schools in the state.
This bill would leave families with few options, some being forced to return to schools that previously failed them. This bill would impact the learning opportunities for many unique students who have found virtual schools to be one way to achieve academic success.
Instead of spending the final few weeks of summer enjoying family and the outdoors, California virtual school families are worrying about the future of the schools they choose.
We encourage parents to advocate on behalf of their children – and all of California’s children – to expand public school options for students, rather than eliminating them.
We urge California legislators to support parent choice by voting AGAINST A.B. 1084.
